The Smartphone Dilemma

Posted in: News- Dec 27, 2010 1 Comment

Have you ever wondered if your smartphone was actually slowing you down? I was inspired to write this post because earlier today as I sat down at my desk, drinking my morning cup of coffee, I read an article from WorkAwesome, a “work smart” blog that has really inspired me to change some old habits. In the weekly tip, they describe how smartphones could actually hurt your productivity. How could that be?

Speaking from personal experience, I know that every time I get an email alert on my BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230, I stop everything I’m doing and check the new email. Then, I proceed to check other emails, and perhaps check more emails that have nothing to do with the original email. Yikes! I’ve just wasted about 15 minutes doing absolutely nothing. Does this sound like you? If it does, you might want to consider setting aside a certain amount of time for email correspondence.

I have to admit, there are some really good benefits to owning a smartphone and one of those reasons is portable email and being able to respond to emails on-the-go, but is it worth it? Chances are that most people waste more time on smartphones, whether it’s a Driod, iPhone, or any other smartphone device than they do actually using it to accomplish tasks.

Then there are those people that have a smartphone and don’t do anything with it but use Facebook on it! How ridiculous. Unlock the power of your phone people! If you own a smartphone and only use it for Facebook and Twitter, you’ve got the wrong phone.

All-in-all, I’m considering dropping my smartphone plan with Verizon because I think I get more done at my desk responding to emails rather than attempting to “waste time” on the go. My plan runs out in February, 2011, and until then, I’ll be click-clacking on the Blackberry. Shall I see you on the other side of smartphones too?

We are so proud to say that Orthodox Daily is now offering web hosting, domain name purchases and much more! Visit our new online store and check out some incredible deals!

What is Hosting?
Hosting (also known as Web site hosting or Web hosting) is the business of housing, serving and maintaining files for one or more Web sites, and providing Internet access (bandwidth). Hosting provides individuals or organizations with the systems to store information, images, video, or other content accessible to users of the Web. In a sense, you rent space on a computer to hold your Web site. Your host, the computer where your Web site files are stored, assigns an address (DNS) for your files to your domain name so that anyone can find your Web site on the Internet by typing your domain name.

OrthodoxDaily.com is one of the newest hosting providers on the scene, but we have some of the most incredible deals. We are an authorized Hosting Provider, according to the Registry. Whether you choose Windows Hosting or Linux Hosting, our world-class Web Hosting services also include email, databases, FREE applications, FREE access to the exclusive OrthodoxDaily.com Hosting Connection community and much more.

Unlike many competing Web Hosting Companies, we own, operate and support our hosting services and pass the savings on to you. Our Affordable Web Hosting is fine for most personal and small business sites. We also offer Business Hosting packages that offer discounted bundles with all the products you need to build, optimize and promote your Web site.

While our hosting plans are ideal for most individuals and small businesses, our Dedicated Servers and Virtual Dedicated Servers are perfect for hosting multiple traffic-intensive Web sites on one server, running enterprise or gaming applications, or operating development environments. You always have the option of purchasing a preconfigured dedicated or virtual dedicated server plan or the flexibility to build your own server.

And if conventional hosting plans can’t keep up with your demands, Grid Hosting from Orthodox Daily puts the power of multiple servers to work for you. With elastic scalability, 99.9% uptime and no need for site migration during growth spurts, Grid Hosting is always at the ready.

Facebook to Launch Email

Posted in: News, Social Media- Nov 14, 2010 2 Comments

Well everybody, I’m sure you’ve heard rumors, and the rumors are true; Facebook is set to launch their web-based email tomorrow at a meeting in San Fransisco. Check it out. One of the most interesting things about the service is that Facebook already has so much information about its 500 million members that it’s going to be a cake-walk to graft this feature into their social networking monstrosity.

The launch of the new service is tomorrow so keep yout your apps open, your smartphones listening, and grab your viral milkshakes to slurp this one down.

I’ve heard people calling this the “Gmail Killer” the “Yahoo Destroyer”, and I think that’s still up for debate. With around $800 Million in annual revenue, Facebook has the money to burn.

But remember Google’s crash-and-burn Wave venture? Perhaps this social media giant will fail, but by the looks of it, “Bookmail” could be here to stay.
