Website Platforms: Understanding the Difference

WordPress Website PlatformsThere are various website platforms available nowadays. Understanding what they offer and what you need for your business is the key to choosing which is best suited for you.  With Orthodox Daily, we generally use WordPress, but we also do use Joomla and Drupal. We’ll discuss the benefits of these three for you to decide which you prefer.

Website Platforms: WordPress

WordPress is generally our number one choice for building websites.  It is one of the most common of the website platforms available, with millions of users and growing.  WordPress has thousands of theme options – free and paid – allowing you unlimited possibilities, not including the endless customization that can be done. Here are some of the highlights of WordPress:

  • 60 million users and counting
  • Thousands of themes – premium and free
  • Thousands of plugins
  • User friendly
  • Easily customized
  • Great support system
  • Great for blogs, websites, and eCommerce
  • Add users with permission limitations

Website Platforms: Joomla

Joomla is similar to WordPress in that it is one of most common of the website platforms, also. Joomla is also known for having a user friendly interface, with great theme options and build-ability.  Website platforms like Joomla are great ways to get your business off the ground.  Here are some of the features of Joomla:

  • Use Any Java Script (Moo-tools, jQuery, Twitter bootstrap and more)
  • Allow users to edit from the front end or back end
  • Advanced Login and logout features
  • Design PSD and bolt it to Joomla!
  • Lead Generation Tool
  • Multilingual Content Management System
  • Add Advanced HTML5 Video

Website Platforms: Drupal

Drupal is the last of the website platforms for today.  Drupal is just as great as WordPress or Joomla with its own benefits and features that cater to your needs. Drupal is loaded with greatness. Here are a few of the features:

  • Many tools to help you organize, structure, find and re-use your content
  • Manage content with an easy-to-use web interface
  • Great options for new user accounts and user permissions
  • Social publishing can help you create sites and applications
  • Build internal and external-facing websites
  • With more than 16,000 available modules
  • Easy to connect your website to other sites and services across the web

There are even more website platforms outside of these three listed above. We could go on for days about the different website platforms and doing a thorough comparisons of them all.  But we just don’t have that kind of time, and more importantly we don’t want to bore you that much. Hopefully this will help you understand the different website platforms offered and which might be best for you.
